Garfield Square park is San Francisco's first professional baseball park, opening in 1868 and closing in 1884. These days it's mainly known as the site of the annual Day of the Dead celebration. San Franciscans have been erecting shrines to their dead here since 1986.
The walls of the Garfield Pool designed by William Gladstone Merchant in the International Style1Note the concrete, ribbon windows, shed roof, glass walls, strong horizontality, and minimal architectural ornamentation hold beautiful murals. The best known is The Primal Sea (1980), by the local nonprofit mural and arts education group Precita Eyes Muralists Association.
Also of note is the 113-foot-long glass mural, Santuario by Favianna Rodriguez.
