This hotel was established in 1915 to accommodate visitors of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition. To make them feel safer it was among the first earthquake- and fire-resistant buildings in San Francisco. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stayed here, but Burt Lancaster and his son were denied entrance into the restaurant due to a strict dress code.
